Double weave. The sling is suitable for babies from 6 months.
Blue cotton base. Purple duck and yellow tsumugi with color splashes.
The sling is quite "dry", in contrast to the oily and shiny mulberry silk. The yellow side (and this is tsumugi silk) is all covered with colored inclusions and small thickenings. After all, this is the specificity of this type of silk.
Tsumugi silk is made in Japan. And at the moment it is one of the most expensive types of silk.
Fabrics with it has good support and tenacity. This sling will never slip. And well suited for heavy babies.
According to the most common legend, tsumugi silk began to be made in ancient times by Japanese peasants from the waste products of the production of fine high-quality silk.
According to the traditional technology, ripened silk cocoons are boiled in boiling water (to remove the protein that sticks together the fibers) and then carefully unwound, twisting together about a dozen or more thin "cobwebs" of silk at once. During this procedure, the silk fibers are sometimes torn and / or tangled and a certain amount of cocoon remains, which is not unwound to the very end cleanly and without “blots”. As a result, quite a lot of silk fiber waste is obtained.
Peasants began to spin some of these remnants into coarse and uneven yarn.
This is how tsumugi silk appeared, from which kimonos were woven for many years. The clothes turned out to be practical and comfortable, for every day and for any work.
Due to the unevenness and relative thickness of the yarn, the new tsumugi slings are stiffer and coarser than fine silk. But the longer you wear such a sling, the softer and more comfortable it becomes, without losing its strength.
It is said that a good tsumugi kimono can be worn for a lifetime and it only gets better. And this fully applies to this sling.
It is difficult to say now how close the legend about the origin of tsumugi is to the truth. As a result, however, there are only a few factories left in Japan who still make this silk. And tsumugi, once considered junk and cheap, has become a real work of art.
